Ignoring the controversy caused by the attribution of the authorship of this work between Julian Arcas and Francisco Tárrega, Emilio Pujol confided to his disciple Alberto Ponce that it was enough to study the writing of this piece to deduce to whom to whom it really belonged...

So why propose a new version of the Fantasia sobre motivos de la Traviata?

Firstly, to give several versions written by Francisco Tárrega in its great first part where the theme Addio del passato is amply developed:

- Two versions from bars 82 to 85 are proposed.

- A second unpublished version of the finale of Addio el passato is offered (bars 82-120) in the London manuscript of 1893. It is up to you to choose !

Then, I took the liberty to propose a brand new version of the final aria of Sempre libera directly inspired by the score of the by the score of the Opera de la Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. First of all the main theme is exposed in the form of a question (bars 1 to 8 of Sempre libera). For some totally obscure reason, Francisco Tárrega then removed a passage from Verdi's opera, eminently expressive and slower, located in the center of the aria (bars 37 to 51). This  is so well suited to the guitar that it would be a shame to do without it. This is followed by the return of the theme which, coming in the Opera from behind the scenes, is all the more sublime.

The fingerings written in this version are directly from the Francisco Tárrega / Emilio Pujol / Alberto Ponce school.
